MORE PICTURES AFTER ITEM DESCRIPTION
This well figured walnut veneered striking Vienna wall clock was manufactured in Germany in the late 1800s and has a serial number 18207 stamped in to the back plate of the movement,a picture of this is included after the item description. The clock has a running duration of 8 days and is in excellent and original condition.
The well proportioned and slim case is in excellent condition and veneered in a well figured walnut which has an excellent original gloss finish along with a nice patina consistent with a well preserved antique. The case is an unusual and elegant style,I have yet to see another one like it.The door to the case has shaped fluted blocks with finely turned half round finials at the top and bottom. The detachable top pediment is of the architectural style with mouldings at the top and bottom, the face of Methuselah and a central finial.Ether side of the top pediment are fixed veneered blocks with ebonized mouldings and finials. At the bottom of the case there is a shaped veneered base with a half finial. The case is in excellent and original condition. The leveling screws and brackets are present and the glass to the sides and the door of the case is original.
As with all weight driven Vienna regulators the movement is of the highest quality having maintaining power and dead beat escapement for accurate timekeeping. The movement has just been professionally cleaned and oiled and is original to the case. It is keeping excellent time and striking reliably. Striking is every hour (once for each hour indicated) and then once for every half hour on a coiled steel gong fixed to the movement mounting bracket. I have included some pictures of the movement at the end of the item description.
The white porcelain dial has Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial ,it is in excellent condition with the exception of some very faint hairlines near the No 8,you should be able to see these by enlarging the picture of the dial included after the item description.. The 2 pulleys and the brass cased weights and pendulum are also in good condition. The pierced steel hands are of typical Viennese style.
As can be seen from the photographs, although well over 100 years old this clock is in superb original condition requiring no restoration at all.
