Antique oak longcase clock by Thomas Kennedy of Kilmarnock
Thomas Kennedy was a watch and clockmaker and a gun maker who had Prince Albert as one of his clients, and an inventor-there is plenty online about him. Anyway I guess the clock was made around the 1820's. It is oak cased. There is a very small piece of veneer missing -not noticeable unless you look closely. It has an 8 day movement, striking the hours. It is in excellent working order. I have not put the weights or pendulum in for the photos as this is a delicate operation!
The painted face is very interesting. Farming scenes from the four seasons are in the corners. Above the dial is a general scene, entitled 'Industry', of farming activities in and around a homely farmstead.
Having moved to a low ceiling-ed cottage and dismissed the only other alternative of digging a hole in the Hall floor we are reluctantly having to sell this lovely clock. It is 89 ins high.
Would prefer cash on collection but would be happy to co-operate with courier if buyer arranges it.
