A good looking traditional antique Georgian Bureau in working order and full of character.
This is a genuine antique with original components. Most of the wood is quarter sawn oak and hence plenty of medulary ray fleck pattern throughout.
The back and underside are all original and in good condition for vintage.
The decorative veneer trim is generally in tact but over the years has broken and then been refitted retaining its originality.
The few repairs add to its character and are generally just cosmetic.
A small section of Decorative beading on one corner is missing as shown in photo no. 10.
6 small internal draws and numerous pigeon holes as seen in photos 6, 7 and 8. The internal section appears to have been coloured a dark mahogany type colour many years ago. The contrast with the oak makes for an interesting combination and emphasises its age.
The writing flap is in good condition for its age and rests on the two retractable supports.
The wood cover for the internal desk area is missing (as shown in pictures of the interior).
The flap lock works but does not lock. Needs some attention on the catch.
3 graduated draws. All 3 draws are original and complete. They freely slide open and close. Nice original wood and dovetailed joints.
Unit Height 103 cm
Depth 52 cm
Width 92 cm
On purchase we were advised it is circa 1720s and this appears consistent with others for sale of this vintage.
