A handsome and fine quality set of
six William IV period dining chairs, in beech with original paint to simulate a
rosewood grain, having ornate carved bar backs and splats, cane seats, and
raised on elegant swept sabre legs. Circa 1835.
Details of Restoration
These chairs are in original structurally sound condition. The polish has
been revived, but remains attractively faded in places, as is some of the
painted grain. There are minor old marks underneath the polish as might be
expected on chairs of this age. There is a small amount of damage to the cane
seats, but they are perfectly sound enough for regular use. We have highlighted
the worst of this in the front rail of the left hand chair in the seat detail
photograph. The seats would almost certainly have had loose squab cushions laid
on top originally; we would be glad to quote to have these replaced. There is
also a small piece of damage where the front rail joins the leg on one of the
chairs; there has been an old repair including an iron bracket. While this repair
(see detail photograph) is almost certainly unnecessarily over-engineered, as
the chair is sound we have elected to leave it in place rather than disturb it!

heartily recommend that you avail yourself of a tape measure and double-check
that any item you are thinking of purchasing will fit into the space you have
in mind for it – in our experience it is all too easy to view a photograph and
imagine a piece is either double or half the size it actually is!
will be happy to arrange a quote for delivery should this be required. We have
a network of reliable couriers we can recommend for both UK and international transport.
